Firsts at the New Bridgwater Registration Office - Somerset Registration Services

Welcome to the new Bridgwater Registration Office! We relocated to our new home in the Bridgwater Library at Binford Place at the end of June, ready for a busy summer of registration and ceremonies.

Our First Marriage

For our very first civil marriage ceremony in the new offices, we had the pleasure of joining together Anthony Adkins and Louise Park. Anthony is a renewable energy engineer, and Louise is a social researcher from Bristol. They brought along both their mums to be witnesses, and were off to celebrate with a family lunch at the River Parrett restaurant. They planned to follow this up with a weekend of celebrations and a blessing ceremony at Huntstile Farm. Thanks to Anthony and Louise for letting us capture their ceremony on camera and share their special day. It doesn’t matter how many ceremonies we perform, we still get excited about each one! While getting married is a serious business, as you can see, we all still managed to have fun. We wish them much joy in their life together.

Our First Babies

As well as marriages and civil partnerships, we are responsible for recording births and deaths in the district. We hadn’t been open long when our first two new arrivals came to visit and be entered in the register of births. First came lovely Darcey, who is full time mum Sharnie’s third baby. Next was Albie, with new parents Shanice and Jonathan who are both support workers. Congratulations to them all!

What We Offer At Bridgwater Registration Office

You can have a simple civil marriage or partnership ceremony with two witnesses at our lovely new offices from Monday to Friday. The ceremony itself lasts up to half an hour, and costs just £50. You have a choice of vows and declarations and can exchange rings as part of the proceedings. The ceremonies take place in a cosy office environment, and we pride ourselves on making our couples feel welcome and relaxed as they make their vows to each other. These intimate ceremonies are also available at Taunton, Weston-super-Mare, Shepton Mallet, Williton and Yeovil Registration Offices.

For those couples who want a longer ceremony with music, readings, personalised vows and lots of guests, there are some fantastic licensed venues in Sedgemoor (and all over our beautiful county!) where our registrars can come and officiate. Have a look through our directory or location map to see what’s available. We currently have over 120 approved ceremony venues, including our own larger rooms at Taunton Register Office and Abbey Manor in Yeovil. Whichever venue you choose, you’ll receive the same fantastic service from our dedicated team of registrars.

Browse our FAQs in the More Information section to find out everything you need to know about what can be included in basic and full ceremonies, how to give notice, who can be a witness, and what the differences are between civil partnerships and marriages.
